Talking Rock Heritage Days Festival

It was one of those lovely autumn days. The kind of day that was perfect for driving on the country roads with the windows down, top back, and without a care in the world. It was a day to stop and pick the flowers that are often overlooked in the hustle and bustle of day to day life. On my journey along back roads, I chose to stop and admire a garden of “flowers” at the 16th Annual Talking Rock Heritage Days Festival. The town of Talking Rock, established in 1883, is the third smallest town in Georgia. The downtown buildings are now occupied by antique and gift shops. A gorgeous two story home, circa 1888, now houses Hollyhocks Antiques.

The town park, which lies between the train tracks and the creek, was filled with people on this unseasonable warm and beautiful day. The quaint town’s streets were lined with vendors selling everything from vintage jewelry to crystals and stones, food and beverages, apparel and furniture. Children enjoyed the glitter tattoos, gem mining, and the bungee/trampoline jumping. Adults wandered from vendor to vendor admiring the unique finds while others enjoyed the live Bluegrass and Gospel music. People of all ages enjoyed the food and ice cream.

I discovered many interesting vintage items at the Clutter 2 Treasure tent. There was décor, jewelry, games, amongst other items. Prices were low, so I walked away with a few things that didn’t break my budget.

The “Recycled Trees,” designed by A’Crystal who owns Stones Talk Metaphysic Shop, were unique. She offers handmade crystal and gem items, including Native American influenced wands, jewelry, and décor. Many of her items are made from “recycled” material. I went home happy with a few affordable finds.

The festival was well-attended, and well worth the ride to Talking Rock for everyone. There was no admission price and parking was free with a shuttle provided for the attendees who chose not to walk beside the train tracks and through the park. Due to the gorgeous weather, walking through the scenic park was not an issue for most people.

Prior to Sunday, October 16, I had not attended this festival. The town made me feel as if I had stepped back in time and I thoroughly enjoyed the place, people, vendors and entertainment. I plan to make this an annual outing.
