Honoring Our Veterans

Veterans Day marks the anniversary of the end of World War I when, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, the guns fell silent in Europe.Ninety-three years later Pickens County gathered to honor those who have fought in defense of the United States.

Speeches and music echoed throughout downtown Jasper. Pickens County High School Band and Chorus shared with all their renditions of patriotic songs.

Local Boy Scouts raised the flag with Cassie Rasco singing the National Anthem. LTC Anthony Sutter spoke of not only the importance of courage but also the importance of honor.

Tom Lindsey read out each name of a Pickens County resident that gave the ultimate act of sacrifice. The Burnt Mountain Center and Boy Scouts placed a wreath at the Monument which has the names of fallen soldiers engraved.
