ETC Tip Off Tournament Final Results

The final day of games in the ETC TV3 Tipoff Tournament was played on Tuesday with the final two matchups of the evening featuring the Pickens Dragons and Dragonettes taking on the Fannin Rebels and Lady Rebels.
The Dragonettes had a lot on the line in this one, as a win would secure a first place finish in the tournament. The team started out slowly due to a lack of rebounding, which led to Pickens trailing Fannin 7-5 after the first quarter. After three quarters of trailling, the Dragonettes got hot in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Lady Rebels 11-4 to win the game by a score of 38-33.

Danielle Goss led the Dragonettes in scoring and rebounds with eight and seven, respectively. Along with winning the tournament, sophomore Sarah Smith, junior Makayla Angel, and junior Kadie Mullinax were all named to the All-Tournament team.

Once the Nettes finished celebrating a hard-fought victory, it was time for the Pickens boy’s team to take on the Rebels. The Dragons were unstoppable in the first quarter of play, starting the game on a 10-4 run. However, Fannin quickly closed the gap, leading to a competitive first half that saw the Dragons hold a slim 23-18 lead over the Rebels at half.

The third quarter proved to be monumental for Pickens, as they didn’t allow Fannin to score until 3:18 left in the quarter and only gave up a total of three points. Now holding an eleven point lead over the Rebels, the Dragons coasted through the fourth quarter en route to a 47-36 victory and the runner-up trophy in the tournament.

Senior Sam Crawford led the Dragons in scoring and rebounds with twenty points and nine rebounds. Crawford, senior Spencer Jones, and sophomore Tanner Brumby were each named to the All-Tournament team.
