The Pickens Middle School seventh and eighth grade basketball teams traveled to Gilmer County to take on the Bobcats of Clear Creek Middle School. The Dragons were 0-2 on the day, as the seventh grade Bobcats won 52-14, and the eighth grade “Cats” won 40-34.The Dragons’ seventh grade team was plundered by a plethora of Pickens’ picked pockets, due to the press orchestrated flawlessly by the burglarizing Bobcats. The Dragons faced a 19-4 deficit at the end of the first, and finally fell 52-14 when the fourth quarter ended.
The eight grade Dragons fared far better, leading 8-7 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter saw the Dragons catch fire early, with a 5-0 run; however, the Clear Creek outscored Pickens 17-4 over the final five minutes of the half, to take a 24-17 lead into half time.
Pickens picked up the pace in the third quarter, cutting the lead to four a the end of the third 30-26; however, the Clear Creek “Cats” outscored Pickens 10-8 in the fourth, securing the 40-34 victory.
