No Placing for Pickens at Area

The Pickens Dragons wrestling team traveled to Heritage High School in Ringgold Ga. to take part in the 7-AAA Area Duals tournament. While the Dragons started off hot, beating Cedartown in the first round, Pickens fell in its next two matches to Ringgold and Allatoona respectively. The loss to Ringgold saw a second day match up with the Buccaneers of Allatoona. Pickens picked up the first match of the dual, with a technical pin (leading by 15 or more points in a match). A last second takedown in the next match gave Allatoona the match; however, the Dragons held a hot lead of 5-3.

After trading pins, the Pickens still held a two point, 11-9, team lead. The Dragons heated up with two straight wins to take a 20-9 lead. The lead was short lived as the Buccaneers began to plunder Pickens’ chances of victory by reeling off seven straight six point wins, six pins and a forfeit. Allatoona won 57-20.

The loss eliminated Pickens from the tournament, effectively dousing the Dragons chances of competing in the state Duals tournament in Macon.
