February Small Business of the Month

Each year, the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce awards six small businesses with the Small Business of the Month award. From those businesses who win the Small Business of the Month award, one is selected to win the Small Business of the Year announced in January at the Chamber’s Annual Winter Ball. The Chamber of Commerce also awards four Non-Profit Organizations and two Large Businesses each year. The Business Council Committee for the Chamber of Commerce chooses the award recipients based on the nominations received from Chamber members. The awards are chosen based on how a business or non profit has grown since their inception, and what involvement the business has had with the Chamber and the community.

(L-R) Denise Duncan, Nancy Unzicker, and Ryan Keeter

In February the Small Business that was chosen is the perfect example of a small, home-based business that reaches out to the community through their chamber involvement and, as a result, has seen their business grow.

The owner joined the chamber in 2006 and immediately became an active volunteer. She currently serves as Vice President of the PWPC, volunteers for the Chamber Golf Tournament committee, is the President of the Chamber Ambassador Program, and has volunteered for the Marble Festival Parade team for the last six years.

The owner also volunteers in the community for the Look Good, Feel Better cancer survivors program. She volunteers at the Verandah Adult Day Care, Serenity Manor Assisted Living, and Grandview Nursing Home to do makeovers and pamper the seniors.

She started her business in 2006 with 2 people in her downline and currently is home based with eight people in her downline. Since joining the chamber she has seen a 35% increase in her business.

Pickens County Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that Mary Kay Cosmetics-Nancy Unzicker is the Small Business of the Month for February 2012. Nancy Unzicker was awarded a framed certificate by Ryan Keeter of Community Bank of Pickens County, the sponsor of the Business of the Month Program. Mary Kay Cosmetics-Nancy Unzicker will be recognized at the March Membership Breakfast as a result of the February breakfast being cancelled due to the threat of inclement weather.

Please join the Chamber in congratulating February’s Small Business of the Month Mary Kay Cosmetics-Nancy Unzicker.

Nominations for future Small Business, Large Business or Non-Profit Organization awards are now being accepted. You can find a nomination form online at www.pickenschamber.com under the Economic Development/E-Friendly page or you can pick one up at the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce.
