Pickens Dragons Spring Football Game

The Pickens High School Dragons football team held its end of spring football “Green & White” games. The junior varsity game was played with out an official score and the varsity game ended in a 7-7 tie.The JV game was ruled by the offense, with four touchdowns scored. The game began with the White team moving the ball down to the Green’s 10 yard line, aided by a big third down run by freshman quarterback Marcus Byrd; however, a forced fumble for a touchback thwarted the drive and gave Green the ball.

On the ensuing drive, sophomore, Tyler McDonald, scored on a long fourth and one touchdown run. The White team answered back with a long drive that ended with junior, Jesse Stargel, dragging Dragons defenders into the end zone for a short rushing touch down.

Byrd flew past the Green defense for another rushing touchdown on a quarterback keeper, to unofficially put the White up 12-6.

The Green team “tied” the game with a rushing touchdown from sophomore, Jacob Pair, the last score of the game.

While the offenses ruled the day during the JV game, the Dragons’ defense ruled the varsity scrimmage. Only two touchdowns were scored with one being a fumble return.

The game began with both defenses forcing a plethora of Pickens “punts.” The first score of the game was the aforementioned fumble return by junior, Silas Lott, who scored for the White team.

The Green team tied the game when junior, Clay Lawson, subbing for junior Tanner Brumby, who started for both teams at the quarterback position, connected on with senior, David Culbreth, for a 20 yard touchdown. The play came immediately after a long reception by junior, Eric Justice, put the White at the 20.

The defenses assured the 7-7 tie stood the rest of the game, as plays like junior, Tate Rizoti’s, interception and senior, Ty Howell’s sack kept the offenses from completing long drives.
