With the help of State Funding, the county will begin paving numerous roads soon. During the May 24th Board of Commissioners’ Meeting, Director of Public Works and Road Department Greg Collis explained the upcoming projects.
Collis said the Georgia Department of Transportation approved the county for 5.285 miles of paving for 2012. The approval also includes a corresponding grant from the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). The grant is called a LMIG (Local Maintenance Improvement Grant) and will fund 85 percent or $314, 337 of the project, while the county is responsible for 15 percent or $55, 471.55 of the cost. The roads on the project list are: County Line, Camp Road, Apple Lane, Bent Tree Dr., Green School Rd., Green Hill St., Green
Hill Road, Green Road.
“As soon as we get the paperwork done on those,”
Collis said,
“we’ll start resurfacing…Within the next few weeks we’ll start on Lovelady off Yellow Creek.”
He also reported as of May 25th, the public works department has purchased and spread 8000 tons of GAB (Graded Aggregate Base) on various county roads. Additionally, the county has used 102.68 tons of cold patch repairing potholes.
