Pickens High Schools girls and boys cross country teams both were ranked in the top five of the preseason AAAA state rankings. The Dragonettes received a #5 the Dragons received a #4 ranking.Saturday’s Pickens Preview saw the Dragonettes place second with junior, Alyssa Weaver placing first overall in 19:08.66, breaking the Dragonettes Girls’ 5K record. The record previous Pickens’ record was 19:14, set in 2008 by Sarah Turner. Weaver was named GA Milesplit 4A “Runner of the Week.
The Dragons placed in fourth in the Pickens Preview, with senior, Drew Bellows, placing second overall with a time of 16:51. Wyatt Ingram placed fourth with a time of 17:29.
PHS will compete next at the Berry’s Clara Bowl Invitational on Sat. 9/8. The “Nettes” and Dragons will host the “Sharptop XC Invitational” at Roper Park on Saturday, 10/13, and the 7AAAA Region Championships (Girls and Boys), at Roper Park as well, on Thursday 11/1.
