The Pickens Dragonettes volleyball team hosted the Gilmer High School Lady Bobcats during the annual “Pink Out” cancer awareness game. Despite winning the first game, the “Nettes” were not able to avenge the loss to the Lady “Cats” and fell 2-1.The “Nettes” were hot at the net to begin the day, as Pickens picked up the pace of game one with a 14-4 run to start the contest. The “Nettes” eventually won 25-20.
Game two began with the home team facing a 9-0 deficit before the first Pickens score. However, the Dragonettes got hot, going on a 15-7 run to pull within one, 16-15. The “Nettes” managed to keep pace throughout, but could not overcome the early deficit, falling 25-23.
The rubber match saw both teams battling each other back and forth for the first 14 points. However, after a 14-14 tie, the visitors pulled away with an 11-3 run that sealed the win for the Lady Bobcats.
The pregame “Pink Out” presentation, featured PHS teacher, Debbie Grimes and Loving Arms Out Reach, of Marietta, being presented with a check from the Dragonettes.
