Pickens County Public Officials participated in a townhall meeting September 27th to discuss the county’s budget. The event seemed a response to Sole Commissioner Robert Jones’ request to department heads to further cut their budgets. In August, Jones announced he was rasing the millage rate to 6.9. After firece public outcry, the commissioner lowered the increase to 6.65, while asking the department heads to further cut their budgets. The townhall was an opportunity for public officials to explain how they trimmed their budgets in response to Jones’ request.
