Jesse “Jed” W. Lankford, Jr. of Jasper, GA passed away Monday, October 22, 2012 at the age of 94.
Jesse was born in Washington, DC in 1918 and lived 10 years in Gainesville and a total of 28 years in Jasper with his wife, Joy Lankford who passed away in 2009. Jesse served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in WWII from 1941-1945 with the Anti-Sub Patrol and in the China-Burma-India Theatre. He then joined Eastern Airlines in 1945 for 33 years, retiring in 1978.
He is survived by his daughters; Jan Morris of Cedartown, Barbara Lankford of Jasper, his brother; John Lankford of Taos, N.M., his sister; Patricia Blake of Murrells Inlet, SC, four grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 26 at Jasper United Methodist Church at 11:00 am. With Revs. Chip Wilson and Max Caylor officiating. Interment will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
