Following in Jasper’s footsteps, Pickens County plans to put the Sunday Sales referendum on the March ballot. During last week’s October commissioner’s meeting, Sole Commissioner Robert Jones signed a resolution to place a referendum on the March 19, 2013 ballot. The referendum will ask voters if they approve of retailers selling malt beverages and wine by the package on Sundays from 12:30 P.M. to 11:30 P.M. Voters in Jasper, the county seat, approved Sunday Sales during the primaries, when a similar referendum appeared on the July ballot.
“We were waiting on the City of Jasper’s vote on the alcohol sales, which passed,”
Jones explained, saying that the county then wanted to get the referendum on the ballot for the November election.
“Unbeknownst to us,”
he added,
“the paperwork was supposed to be in previous to the April election.”
Thus, the next available ballot is March 13, 2013.
