Hendricks Resigns from Highlands, Replaced by Wigington

Soon-to-be Former District Attorney Joe Hendricks has resigned from his position on the Highland Rivers Community Service Board. Pickens County Sole Commissioner Robert Jones read Hendricks’ resignation letter during last week’s commissioner’s meeting. Addressed to Highlands CEO Jason Bearden, the letter states Hendricks resignation was effective November 17th. The letter goes on to say that the DA is relocating his law practice to Kentucky and, due to several commitments, is unable to attend the December 12th meeting.

During the commissioner’s meeting, Jones also announced the appointment of Allen Wigington to the board to fill Hendricks’ spot. Wigington was elected Chief Magistrate Judge in the July Primary and then again in the November general election. Wigington will complete Hendricks’ three year term, which ends on June 30, 2014.

Located in Dalton, the Highland Rivers Center serves those experiencing effects from mental illness, development disabilities and addictive diseases.

“I have enjoyed working with you and wish you and Highland Rivers much success,”

Hendricks wrote in his letter.

Hendricks lost the July Primary to Alison Sosebee, but will remain district attorney until January.
