Bruce Huntington : Obituary

Mr. Bruce Boyer Huntington, age 81 died April 5, 2013.
He was born in Lansing, Michigan, son of Zelpha Fields & Floyd Huntington. His family moved many times in Bruce’s first nine years. They arrived in Marietta, Ga. on Pearl Harbor Day. He attended Marietta city schools and was a charter member of the St. Stephens United Methodist Church. He served his country during the Korean War in the Army’s 82nd Airborne. After his discharge, he attended Southern Tech in Chamblee. He married Maureen Presley and raised three children in Marietta. He was a Boy Scout Master for seventeen years and was an active member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church.

After he retired from Lockheed in 1987, he and his wife moved to Bent Tree in Jasper. He joined the Lions Club where he served as a President and recieved The Lion of the year award and the Melvyn Jones Award. Before his health deteriorated, Mr. Huntington was a mentor at the Middle School and enjoyed helping with the cooking at the Wednesday night suppers at the Jasper United Methodist Church. He was a member of Local Chapter 47 DAV in Pickens County. He was an avid fisherman and active in the Lake and Wildlife activities at Bent Tree. Mr. Huntington loved his family, country and his community.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Maureen Presley Huntington, daughters; Katherine Huntington, Jasper, Ann Corrigan ( David), Acworth and son; Collins (Lora), Woodstock and four grandsons; Jake Corrigan (Micah) and Kevin Corrigan, and Ben and Isaac Huntington. Bruce also leaves to cherish his memory his Yorky, Cooper, and his Min Pin, Harry Truman.

Memorial service will be held at Jasper United Methodist Church in Jasper on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at 11am with Rev. Preston Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens with Local Chapter 47 DAV in charge of Military Rites.

Instead of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Georgia Mountains Hospice-70 Caring Way, Jasper, Ga. 30143 and to JUMC building fund-85 West Church Street Jasper, Ga. 30143.
