The Pickens County School Board announced this afternoon it has tentatively approved Dr, Lula Mae Perry as interim superintendent. Perry has served for the past twelve years as superintendent for Jeff Davis County, from 2000 -2012 and will work in a consulting capacity for the month of June, as outgoing Superintendent Ben Desper prepares his exit at the end of the month. Perry is expected to shift to full-time in July. According to Board Chair Wendy Lowe, the information will be advertised for fourteen days, after which time the board will give final approval to Perry’s employment. In a statement today, School board attorney Phil Landrum said Perry comes with an excellent state-wide reputation, adding that she is familiar with superintendent work in a system the size of Pickens.
