The Jasper city council meeting on Monday took the time to acknowledge and congratulate the local 4-H club’s SAFE shooting team. Lonnie Waters, the city’s Animal Control officer and a coach for SAFE, talked to the audience about the team’s success and how hard they have all worked, saying
“This year we have had an exceptional team. They went to qualifying and brought home fourteen blue ribbons. They went to state in the senior division, which is ninth grade through twelfth grade, and placed twelfth in the state.”
The members of the team were then introduced to the council and the rest of those in attendance and then took the opportunity to take a picture together.
The meeting on Monday night also featured an update on the long awaited audit for the city of Jasper. The matter was brought up by council member James Looney, who was then informed of the situation by the city’s new chief financial officer Lisa Hoyle, who said
“I think they are at least halfway through, but I think there’s still a lot of work left to do. The partner in charge has been here about a week, and the guys who had come earlier have to review all the work papers and probably finish up some things. Hopefully in the next couple weeks [they will be finished].”
FYN will relay any updates on the city’s audit once it is officially completed.
