Lady “Nettes” Slay Lady Cougars

Both the junior varsity and varsity Dragonettes volleyball teams from Pickens High School traveled to Copper Basin, to face the Lady Cougars. The Lady “Nettes” would take both matches in short order.The JV’s first set started out with the “Nettes” racing out to a quick lead of 10-3. The Cougars would get its game face on, starting a 14-2 run, that allowed “Basin” to take the lead. The Lady Cougars make the score 12-17 before the “Nettes” would take over the set.

Ending the first set with 3 straight Aces for a final of 25-19, the ladies from Pickens would get ready to try to put them away in two sets. Set two started out hot as both teams traded scores back and forth leading to a tie at 11 all, midway through the match.

A 14-4 Pickens run, that saw four straight Aces, allowing the “Nettes” to would walk away from the Cougars and end up with the second and final set victory, 24-15.

With the JV games over it was time for the varsity girls to hit the court for the best of five series. Kaleigh Waters would set the tempo for the “Nettes” with a statement kill in the opening volleys.

The Lady Cougars would bring the score back up to 12-9 but this would be the closest “Basin” would come within. The “Nettes” ended the first set 25-19.

Set two would start out with Lady “Nette’s” on fire, with Callie Greene serving the score up to a 9-1 lead. This early lead would be to big of a hill for the Cougars to climb letting the “Nettes” have the second set with a final of 25-10.

The third and final set would prove to be no different. The ladies of Pickens raced up a quick 9-2 lead. It was then the Cougars got their second wind and pushed hard to make it a tight 13-9 set. Then just as she did in the second set Callie Greene took over the game serving the “Nettes” to a 25-10 set and match win.

The Lady “Nettes” next match will be Thursday as they travel to Lumpkin County to face Lumpkin and Madison Counties.
