Dragonettes Take Their Lumps at Lumpkin

The Pickens Dragonettes traveled to Lumpkin County High School on Thursday, August 29th, for a pair of matches against the Lumpkin Lady Indians and the Madison County Raiders and would fight hard in what would prove to be two losses.
The first game of the evening between Pickens and Lumpkin saw the Dragonettes jump out to a sizeable lead, at one point holding an 18-10 advantage, when the Lady Indians mounted a tremendous comeback, outscoring Pickens 12-4 to tie the game 22-22.

Fortunately for the Nettes, the team was able to recover and keep pace with Lumpkin, which resulted in the game being tied 25-25. Needing a two-point advantage to win, the Dragonettes did what they could to extend the game but unfortunately came up short, losing by the final score of 27-25.

The Dragonettes found themselves down 19-12 in the next game but then rallied for an impressive comeback of their own, closing the score to 21-17 late in the matchup. However, the Lady Indians would not allow Pickens to overtake them, resulting in a match victory courtesy of the 25-21 win for Lumpkin.

Next up for the Dragonettes was a match against the Madison County Raiders, who arrived in Dahlonega ready to play. Pickens and Madison fought back-and-forth in the first game, trading points throughout the contest before Pickens put it together and pulled away for a 25-21 win.

Now with an opportunity to win the match, the Nettes hit the nets hard in the second game and did their best to ruin the Raiders’ night but came up just short, losing the game 25-20. Now in a do-or-die third game to determine who would win the match, Pickens just could not keep up the momentum they had held in the previous two games, leading to a 25-10 loss.

The Dragonettes will be back in action on Tuesday, September 3rd at home with matches against Cherokee and Sonoraville. The matches are slated to start at 5:00 p.m.
