Mr. Leon Childers, age 73 of Jasper, an Army veteran with 26 years of service ans 2 tours in Vietnam, passed away at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital on Friday November 15, 2013.He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Erika Childers, mother; Estelle Childers, daughters & son-in-law; Teresa & Gene Deal, Patricia Dlugasch, Pam Long, brothers & sisters-in-law; Lenard & Gladys Childers, Wayne & Nancy Childers, Ed & Monika Childers, Tim & Kym Childers, sisters & brothers-in-law; Wanda Wigington, Rachel & Mickey Howard, Flondell & James Thompson, Winnie & Robert Tanner, Jo Ann & Jerry Phillips, Patsy & Bill Webster, 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Mr. Childers was preceded in death by his father; Omada Childers and sister; Margie Weaver.
The family will receive friends at Cagle Funeral Home on Saturday from 4pm till 10pm and again on Sunday from 8am until prior to the funeral hour.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2pm on Sunday at Jerusalem Baptist Church with Revs. James Thompson, Nathan Smith & Robert Allen officiating. The interment will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens with Pickens Star Lodge# 220 and local chapter 47 DAV in charge of military Rites.
