Carol Ann (Jones) Deckert, age 79, passed away on January 2, 2014 at her home in Bent Tree near Jasper, Georgia. Born on July 19, 1934 in Warsaw, Missouri, she was the second and last child of the late Z. Glen Jones and Jewel Ellen Parker Jones. Her elder brother, Willard E. Jones, also of Bent Tree, passed away this past April. She graduated from St. Charles High School, just west of St. Louis, in 1952 and received a degree in Music Education from Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky in 1956. Carol taught in elementary and middle schools for 34 years, mostly in the Ferguson-Florissant School District in St. Louis County, Missouri.
Carol is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert Deckert of Jasper, Ga.; DAUGHTER & SON-IN-LAW, Suzanne and Michael Steevens of O’Fallon, MO; SON & DAUGHTER-IN-LAW, David G. and Laverne Deckert of Woodstock, Ga.; GRANDCHILDREN, Kathryn Steevens, Jackson Steevens, Matthew Deckert and Grace Deckert. SISTER-IN-LAW, Evelyn (Dalton) Jones of Jasper, Ga.; NIECES, Sharlyn, Leslie, Michelle and Carol, along with their families; SISTER-IN-LAW, Verna Bryan of Miami Lakes, Fla.; NEPHEWS, Kevin and Charles Bryan, along with their families.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at the Roper Funeral Home Chapel. Family visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either the American Cancer Society or the Ovarian Cancer Institute (ovariancancerinstitute.org/donate/)
