Tanner Brumby Commits to Mercer University

Pickens Dragons senior quarterback Tanner Brumby committed to play football at Mercer University on Sunday, January 12th, getting one step closer to becoming only the fifth player in Pickens High School history to play football at the Division 1 level.
Tanner was very excited about his future at Mercer, saying,

“It’s obviously a school that will set you up for great academic achievement. The coaches and the players are awesome and are definitely a big reason I chose to go there. The people around the community are definitely excited about Mercer football, and the step-up to the Southern Conference gives Mercer the opportunity to play some great football. I’m just honored to now be a part of the program.”

Brumby had a solid senior season for the Dragons, throwing for 989 yards with 8 touchdowns. Brumby also rushed for 720 yards and 11 touchdowns and averaged 41.6 yards per punt to help lead Pickens to its first winning season since 2007. He also leaves Pickens High School with several school records.

Pickens Dragons head coach Chris Parker had great things to say about his former signal-caller, telling us that

“Tanner is one of the hardest working, dedicated players that I have coached. He worked hard in the class room, weight room, and practice field. He is a good example for our younger players and will be a great addition to the Mercer program. We are very proud of him and very happy for him and his family.”

Mercer University is located in Macon, Georgia and is set to move up to the FCS’s Southern Conference this summer after being a member of the Pioneer League. Led by head coach Bobby Lamb, the Bears were highly successful in 2013–the school’s first football season since 1941–and ended the campaign with a 10-2 record.
