Groom sees charges in wife’s death

FYN has learned that Ryan Quinton was charged yesterday in the death of his wife in a wreck December 29, 2013. Ryan was booked into the Cherokee County Detention Center and released on $25,000 bond.Quinton has been charged with laying drags, driving under the influence, weaving over roadway, reckless driving and vehicular homicide.

The Georgia State Patrol has stated warrants were taken on Monday and Quinton turned himself in to the Cherokee Co. Sheriff’s Office yesterday morning. The charges were delayed until now due to the GSP investigation wasn’t yet completed.They additionally reported the blood alcohol result from the GBI Crime Lab was 0.114.

Laying drags is a misdemeanor as is reckless driving although the second charge is punishable by a fine not to exceed $1,000.00 or imprisonment not to exceed 12 months. DUI first offense can see anywhere from license suspension for up to one year, $300-1000.00 fine, community service and jail up to one year. Vehicular homicide carries sentence of 3-15 years of prison.

The accident occurred shortly after leaving their wedding reception in Ball Ground, heading north on Highway 5 just short of the Pickens County line. Quinton reported he’d swerved to avoid a dog in the road when he lost control and the vehicle left the roadway, overturning and ejecting his wife, Kali Shay Dobson.
