Son shoots father to defend mother during fight

A domestic dispute at a home in southern Pickens County turned potentially deadly when gunplay became a factor today. The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting an escalating fight around 5 p.m. this evening.A husband and wife were embroiled in an argument that turned physical. Concerned for his mother’s welfare, their 12 year old son retrieved a shotgun from another room and began firing at his father in her defense. The boy fired three rounds, with one finding its mark before deputies could arrive.

After sustaining a superficial wound to his foot the father refused medical treatment. But, as is standard practice, once the father was charged and arrested, he was transported to the hospital for treatment before being released for transferral to the adult detention center where he’s being held on multiple charges.

The child will not face charges for his part in the incident. The PSO would not release the address nor the family name to protect his identity.
