Northern Georgia subject to severe weather conditions

A very dangerous weather situation is continuing to develop that will impact northern Georgia for the next few days. Considering the system has already spawned fatal tornados Georgians should be alert and prepared to take action.7:30 p.m., Monday, 04/28/2014:

Pickens County is now under a tornado watch until 1 a.m. A tornado watch indicates conditions are favorable for tornadic activity. Please continue to stay weather aware.

Mid-afternoon Monday, 04/28/2014:

Pickens County Information Director Norman Pope advised a briefing this afternoon shows the potential for violent weather is only increasing. The National Weather Service told county leaders storms should hit from 3-5 a.m. with the models predicting the chances of tornadic activity climbing, thus causing concern for Pickens County officials.

“We want everyone to be alert tonight. Please watch your televisions, check the internet or however you get your weather before you go to bed so you’ll be aware of the danger,”

Pope encouraged residents. A weather radio and the Code Red System the county has utilized could help alert of impending risk.

To ensure citizens get all notifications that the county uses, Pickens Emergency Management Director Bob Howard is planning to go to work at 3 a.m. to monitor the situation and send warnings should that prove necessary.

Early morning Monday, 04/28/2014:

Per the National Weather Service, “Severe storms are expected this week – tonight through Wednesday. This includes strong, long tracked tornadoes that are most likely across northwest Georgia in the Monday night to early Tuesday morning time period, across west central Georgia Tuesday afternoon. Stay weather aware this week and make sure you know where to seek shelter if a warning is issued!”
