Kingston Goes Negative, May Have Distorted Facts

When Kingston says “I’m Jack Kingston and I approve this message”
I hope in his last negative ad against David Perdue he was not saying he believed it to be true.
After reviewing Kingston’s last ad FactCheck.org said “Rep. Jack Kingston repackages several deceptive claims about his opponent’s business record in a new TV ad that has all the charm of a summer re-run.”

Kingston’s ad implies that Perdue is the reason that PillowTex went under and thousands lost their jobs. Not true. PillowTex was well on its way to going under when they contacted Perdue in a last hope effort to save the company. When Perdue arrived at PillowTex he quickly identified an estimated 41 million unfunded pension liability. This unfunded liability made it impossible to save PillowTex. Yes, thousands lost their jobs but not because of David Perdue.

The ad goes on to say that while serving on the board of Alliant Energy Corp. in 2009 that Alliant Energy received millions from Obama’s Stimulus. Alliant Energy did receive $3.4 million in stimulus. This is only 1/10 of 1% of their budget. Perdue was only one of a board of ten and held no management position with Alliant Energy. Perdue was in no position to accept or deny the stimulus money but the Kingston ad would leave you with the impression that Obama handed the money straight to Perdue.

Finally the ad says “Perdue got rich and left us with the mess.” Really, Perdue did that? I thought that was Goldman Sachs that got rich, and weren’t bonuses paid to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac executives? The list goes on and on with what really left the American people in a mess. Not David Perdue, PillowTex and Alliant Energy.
