Pickens County held their Veterans Day Program on a beautiful sunny morning at Lee Newton Park in Jasper.The Veterans Day program started at 10:45 with spectators and participants listening to patriotic music by the Pickens High School Marching band, directed by Michael Oubre.
The Master of the Ceremony was Tom Lindsey. The ceremony began with the raising of the flag by the Pickens County Explorers with assistant adviser, Danny Palmer. The “National Anthem” was sung by the PHS Sweet Tones along with the PHS Marching Band.
The invocation was by Bud Champlin, Chaplin-American Legion Post 49. Next came the reading of the names on the monument by Tom Lindsey. The drum roll was done by the PHS Band and bell toll by Lion, Mark Miller. The Pickens County Explorers then placed the wreaths at the monument. This was followed by a 21 gun salute by the DAV Honor Guard, Chapter 47. Taps was performed by Lion, Leslie Miller.
