Pickens County Extension Office to Move

An agreement to move the Pickens County Extension Office has been reached. The possibility of moving the Pickens County 4-H Extension office was discussed at the November Board of Commissioners meeting. Commission Chair Rob Jones explained that the current location at the Jasper Depot needed a roof repair. The repair included the removal of asbestos and the cost would be approximately $20,000 and as Mr. Jones explained

“We have an issue with the fact that Pickens County doesn’t own the building so to put a twenty-thousand dollar roof on a building that we don’t own and they could in theory have us move in 60 days doesn’t sit well with us so that’s why we are looking at other options.”

A decision to give notice was made at the meeting and it appears an agreement has been reached to move the Extension Office to the Pickens County Chamber building.

Denise Duncan, Executive President of the Pickens County Chamber wanted to let everyone know that effective February 1st 2015 the Chamber will be leasing the Community Room to the Pickens County Extension Office. The Chamber will be working with them in order to be able to continue to host Chamber related functions when necessary int he Community Room.
