Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for New Cafeteria for Tate Elementary

A groundbreaking ceremony was held yesterday at Tate Elementary School for the new cafeteria.A representative from each class (two students from 5th grade) joined in the ceremony themselves. The entire student body, teachers, lunch room staff and dignitaries were there to watch this event unfold. Dr. Deborah Longshore, Principal of TES spoke at the groundbreaking saying,

“This is a special day to celebrate not just the groundbreaking for a new cafeteria, but a beginning of a new chapter in the Tate story…a story that began almost 100 years ago when Colonel Sam Tate invested in bettering the education of the children in the Tate community by building a school in this special corner of the world.”

The architects plan to preserve the historical elements of the school by building the cafeteria with marble much as the school is currently built.
This is indeed a rare occurance compared to many other schools throughout the state.

Dr. Longshore thanked the community, the board, and Pickens county school administration for their support in this much needed endeaver.
