Last night, the Nettes varsity basketball team came back home to play host to the Lady Bruins of Northwest Whitfield in 7AAAA action. It was the first meeting of the season between the two teams and the Nettes were trying to right the ship after two tough losses. After a slow start to the ball game where it was deadlocked at 3, Northwest Whitfield seized the lead 18-8 headed to the second quarter. The second quarter would not be a kind one to the Nettes as the Lady Bruins outscored them 24-7 to take a 42-15 lead at the break. Pickens found more struggles in the third quarter as Northwest Whitfield caused turnovers on the defensive end and hit three after three on the offensive side to outscore the Nettes 19-6 and take a 61-21 lead into the fourth and final quarter of play. A shortened fourth quarter saw Pickens find some success but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Bruins won this one, 74-33.
The Nettes are now 4-6 on the season and 2-2 in region play
Leading the way for Pickens last night would be:
Makayla Payne: 9 points, 1 assist, and 3 rebounds
Ashley Nelson: 8 points, and 3 rebounds
Haley Kalson: 7 points, 3 assists, 1 rebound, and 1 steal
Shelby Cook: 4 points, 1 assist, and 2 rebounds
Taylor Wigington dished out 4 assists, grabbed 3 rebounds, and had 1 steal
The Nettes’ busy week continues as they travel to Cartersville to take on the Lady Canes Thursday afternoon in a big 7AAAA game. Tip off for that one is scheduled for 5 pm. Pickens will then turn around on Saturday and travel to Hall County to take on the Lady Spartans of West Hall in non region action. Tip off is slated for 7 pm.
