Mr. John Leslie Parker, Jr. : Obituary

John Leslie Parker, Jr., age 88, of Big Canoe, Georgia, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2015 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Chandler Parker; his parents, John Leslie Parker, Sr. and Stella Webb Peavy; brother, Edward Morton Parker; and one granddaughter.

John was born April 29, 1926 in Wilmington, North Carolina. He was educated at Georgia Tech in Atlanta and was a Civil Engineer for Lockheed Aircraft in Marietta, Georgia for over 30 years retiring in 1987. John served in World War II as a Cryptanalysis Technician in the United States Army. John was a strong Christian man, husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, uncle, brother and a friend to everyone he met. John was known for his wonderful smile, great kindness, positive attitude and warm, loving heart. He enjoyed the company of his family and friends.

Survivors include his son John Leslie Parker, III and wife, Carlene of Port St. Joe, Florida; daughters, Ginger Collins and husband, Ken Gozur of Macon, Georgia; Martha Sharp and husband, Bobby of Cleveland, Georgia; Susan Jackson and husband, Rob of Big Canoe, Georgia; and Lisa Baynard and husband, Rick of Rutherfordton, North Carolina; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

On Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at 9:30 am, there will be a graveside service at Kennesaw Memorial Park; 1306 Whitlock Avenue; Marietta, Georgia. Following will be a Celebration of Life at 11:30 a.m. at Trinity Church, 2685 Steve Tate Highway. There will be a reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Epilepsy Foundation.
