Recently, the dangers of purchasing online through a stranger became very real in the tragic death of a Marietta couple. Prior to this case, many others have been victims of a variety of crimes ranging from being ripped off with counterfeit merchandise, being robbed to others that have been assaulted.Meeting a stranger to purchase an item always has the potential for something bad to take place because of the unknown variable.
The Pickens Sheriff’s Office would like to encourage our citizens to use the address of our office when meeting a stranger. First, this can deter an individual who is planning to commit a crime from meeting. Second, it gives you a safe, well lit, location to meet.
Our headquarters is located at 2985 Camp Road, Jasper, Georgia, 30143.
We strongly encourage you to be safe and to take advantage of the safest possible locations when meeting strangers like this. If you are having to meet others in another county, you can contact the local sheriff’s office of that county and ask if they would be willing to allow the same. Then provide the address of that location as your meeting point.
