Mardi Gras in the Mountains Annual Event

Residents from local counties in North Georgia were representing their community in the contest to be Mardi Gras in the Mountains King and Queen while raising some money for a good cause. Mardi Gras in the Mountains is an annual joint fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Jasper,
The Knights of Columbus and Georgia Mountain Hospice. The annual event was held Saturday from 6:30 to 11 p.m. at Appalachian Campus of Chattahoochee Technical College in Jasper, Georgia. The evening was enjoyed by a record year attendance.

The night included fine dining, a band, silent auction and coronation of the 2015 King and Queen and Honor Court. The dinner was catered by Madeline’s of Jasper and entertainment provided by Banks and Shane. Dr. Carl McCurdy assisted with special music and Bay Cagle sang a solo of “Can You Feel the Love Tonight.”

Those vying for the title were able to generate over $42,000 by soliciting funds in order to vote. Special thanks to those donating to cast their votes for their favorites for king and queen. The 2015 nominees were: Jack Short and Margy Lohman from Pickens; Dave Richey and Chris Hice Waldman of Gilmer; John and Sandy Lipkowitz representing Dawson; and Tim Cavendar and Diana Goodman from Cherokee. Those receiving the most votes (funds raised) are crowned King and Queen and this year we would like to congratulate King Jack Short (Pickens) and Queen Chris Hice Waldman (Gilmer).

A special thank you goes to all involved and especially Gina Pendley for a wonderful evening. Total amount raised will be announced soon. If you would like to find out how you can show your support please visit the website at Georgia Mountains Hospice.
