A Lot Going On at the Jasper Farmers Market

Article submitted by Darla Huffman: Every home should have at least one tomato plant. You can plant it anywhere that it can have some sunshine; a pot on the deck, in among the petunias, close to the back door so you will remember to water it and you can watch that first green tomato turn red and slice it at the peak of ripeness as soon as it is picked. But then you may never want a super market tomato again. If you should want to give this a try the farmers market has about 50 different varieties of ready to plant tomato plants from several vendors. And any of them can tell you how to plant and care for it.

If it doesn’t rain next Saturday, Jenny Fellenbaum is going to bring he mini lathe and demonstrate woodturning during the regular market hours. A lot of vendors use the time they are at the market to work on their various projects. Kimberly Bell will be making her original jewelry. One of the things she does is preserve dried flowers in resin to be set into earrings, bracelets or necklaces. Linda Susie Carter, best known for her soy wax candles, was crocheting “cocoons” for baby girls who want to be mermaids and for big girls she has boot cuffs. Even Eric Ebbing was seen sanding the end of a newly made baseball bat. Eric is that cutting board guy but he does all sort of woodwork and has recently made some baseball bats in case you should want to take one to the ball game and have your favorite player autograph it. If it does rain on the 18th Jenny will do her wood turning demonstration on the following week, April 25th.

I see on the Jasper Farmers Market Facebook page that Charmet has posted that she and Dr. Chester, from Animal Medical Clinic, will be at the market next Saturday doing vaccines for your pets. There is a lot going on so come on over and join the fun.

The Jasper Farmers Market Spring and Summer Season takes place every Saturday morning (April through October) and Wednesday morning (June through August) from 7:30 am to 12 noon in the Park n Ride lot at Lee Newton Park on Hwy 53 in Jasper, with the exception of the July 4 and Marble Festival activities and is a project of the Pickens County Master Gardeners.
