Tom Cruise Movie to Film in Ballground, GA

A new movie featuring Tom Cruise will be filmed in Ballground, GA.Producers have selected the city, just south of Pickens County, as the primary filming location for a big budget film. There will also possibly be some areas in Jasper, GA included as well. The main filming locations for the movie will be on Gilmer Ferry Road, between Civic Drive and Old Canton Road, as well as other locations around the city, Cherokee County, Pickens County and Roswell. Filming is expected to begin in mid-May.

The filming of “Mena” a fact-based story about Barry Seal (played by Cruise) is expected to take place sometime between April and July of this year. The title refers to Mena, AR. The story is about a pilot who was a gun runner and drug trafficker – Barry Seal, that transported contraband for the CIA and the Medellin cartel during the 80’s. The city is getting ready for the action. City officials are supportive of the Georgia DOT issuing permits to film on or around Highway 372 which could detour traffic for up to 10 days.

More local filming is happening in Canton, Ga. Currently Tyler Perry has selected Canton, GA (Cherokee County) as a filming location.
The original series “The Haves and the Have Nots” selected downtown Canton in Cherokee County, Ga., to film scenes for the popular program. The program is a prime time soap opera created, produced, written and directed by the Atlanta-based actor and director.
