Checkers Anyone? At the Jasper Farmers Market

quote by Zach Henson, (fresh vegetables and eggs) when ask for a comment on his experience at the Jasper Farmers Market. He expressed a sentiment felt by most market regulars; that JFM is a nice place to come, buying, selling or just looking and old fashioned chatting.

Bill Swift had a different reason to come to the market. He came to play checkers. Equipped with a checkerboard, table and chairs he set up between vendors and invited passerby’s to stop and play a game. Bill was the tennis pro at Bent Tree before he retired a couple of years ago, so maybe he could give you some tips on improving your checker game. He will be back so come by and pull up a chair and have a game of checkers. If you are not too competitive it could be a good way to relax and relieve stress.

There was lettuce, kale, spinach and onions for sale by a few vendors; not many vegetable plants but a lot of landscaping plants and local honey made an appearance. Honey should be plentiful in the next few weeks and it is wise to purchase honey from a known source, as it is the only sure way of getting pure honey.

Jones Family Landscaping was at the market for the first time this year with a variety of plants for your yard. It is a family business with Bill, Kathy and son Ben (the last one left at home) participating in the work of growing the plants and doing the design, installation and maintenance for customers.

The Jasper Farmers Market Spring and Summer Season takes place every Saturday morning (April through October) and Wednesday morning (June through August) from 7:30 am to 12 noon in the Park n Ride lot at Lee Newton Park on Hwy 53 in Jasper, with the exception of the July 4 and Marble Festival activities and is a project of the Pickens County Master Gardeners.
