Daily Prayer: 06/10

Matthew 5:31-32. “It has been said, ‘Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.’ But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to become an adulteress, and anyone who marries the divorced woman commits adultery.”

Lord Jesus, you gave this hard teaching against a background that treated women as chattels in which they had no rights. Thank you for protecting women and securing the bonds of family that must not be broken except as you have allowed.

Today, families are so easily fractured and heartache abounds in our society. We pray for husbands and wives who are having difficulty communicating that is placing stress on their relationship. Help them to know that in the context of a relationship with you they can solve any difficulty.

Bless the children of marriages that have broken up. They want to know that they are loved and that you see their need.

Give this person who now thinks on these truths the peace of knowing that all things are possible with you.
