K-9 Tracks To An Arrest

K-9 Flash has proven his abilities in tracking as he led officers to a fleeing suspect.Thursday afternoon, June 18th, local Deputy Chris Tucker and his partner, K-9 Flash, tracked and followed, through the woods of the Twin Mountain Lake area, an individual who had fired a weapon during a Domestic Dispute.

In a release issued by the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies originally responded to the area of Twin Mountain Lakes Circle around 1:00 pm after 911 received a call for a domestic dispute.

After speaking to numerous witnesses as they investigated, Deputies discovered the dispute went on between suspects Tommy Voyles and Tony Childers. Mr. Voyles allegedly fired off his pistol into the air while threatening Mr. Childers.

According to the Media Release,

“Childers had remained on the scene and cooperated with deputies.”

Though, he was found in violation of a previous bond from jail that prevented him from being at the residence and was subsequently arrested.

At this point, additional deputies responded in assistance to search for Mr. Voyles.

Included in that response were Deputy Tucker and his partner, K-9 Flash. Upon arrival the team began their search for the suspect, tracking him into the woods. It did not take long for Flash to cross the short distance and discover Mr. Voyles, who was then taken into custody without incident.

Mr. Voyles has since been charged with Aggravated Assault and both he and Mr. Childers were booked into the Pickens County Adult Detention Center.

In addition to tracking, K-9 Officer Flash is trained as a Narcotics and Patrol Dog. He has recently transferred with Deputy Tucker, a highly decorated K-9 handler, from the Savannah / Chatham County Police Department to be with the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office is

“excited to have them both on the force and look forward to all they will be able to accomplish.”
