Mr. Dennis Michael Young: Obituary

Dennis Michael Young, 67, of Jasper, Georgia died Friday, February 5, 2016.  Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was a retired Family Therapist and Counselor, South Carolina State Mental Health Administrator and then an International Sales Consultant for construction equipment and boat lifts.

He served in the Air Force over six years training with flight simulators.  Additional education included a BA at University of Tampa in Psychology, a MA from University of Florida in Counseling and PH.D.  Didactic completed in Education at University of South Florida.

Here in Jasper, Denny continued to serve his community in the Preserve at Sharp Mountain, The Sheriff’s Auxiliary, Citizen’s Academy and Caring Paws Pet Therapy.  He was an avid outdoors man and enjoyed hunting, boating and fishing with family and friends.

With Caring Paws, Denny trained his West German Shepard, Diesel, to be the only pet/handler credentialed to pull a cart for people to ride in special events.  Diesel and Denny were on staff at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, Shriners Hospital, Veterans Hospital and Grandview Nursing Home.  They visited bereavement children’s camps, schools and libraries.

Denny married Deanna Workman December 11, 1996 at our family Christmas event.  He is survived by daughters, Jennifer Young 8/23/1970 born in Florida and Meredith Walters 10/22/1976 born in Alabama and resides in Phenix City with son-in-law, Nathan.  Denny’s grandsons are Chase 18, Dawson 10, and Greyson 5.  Siblings include two brothers in Georgia; Jim in Gainesville and Ray in Lilburn.  Sisters are Mary in Texas and Barbara in Washington, D.C.; father-in-law, Archie; sister-in-law, Tara; niece, Tessa and nephew, Levi live in central Florida.

Arrangements include visitation from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. and a Memorial Service to follow from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 13 at Roper Funeral Home; 206 Holly Street; Jasper.  Denny has been cremated and his ashes will later be buried at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
