Pickens County Deputy involved in rollover crash

Early this morning, February 14th, 2016, a Pickens County Deputy, Sgt. Rick Hales, was involved in an accident on Hwy 515 near Noah drive.

The deputy’s vehicle rolled over and he was ejected. He was airlifted to Kennestone Hospital and and his family followed. The other driver was also transported to an Atlanta Hospital in serious condition.

As of the Sunday evening, the deputy involved in the accident, Sergeant Rick Hales, was still in ICU being evaluated with a broken femur and being checked for other possible injuries. He has regained some feeling in his lower extremities but doctors are continuing to run tests to verify all details.

The other driver (whose name has not been released until all family has had a chance to be notified) is also doing well. She did suffer a head injury believed to be a concussion at this time and she is still being monitored closely as well.

Since the Georgia State Patrol accident reconstruction team is conducting the full investigation of the accident (due to an officer being involved), The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office is not able to release the particular details of the incident.
