JV Dragons Baseball Improves To 4-1 With Win Over Union

The JV Dragons baseball team hosted the JV Panthers of Union Co. yesterday at PCMS for a non-region tilt. The JV Dragons came into the ball game playing well early on in the season sporting a 3-1 record.

 

Union Co. pounced on the lead early in the 1st inning as they were able to score three runs to take an early 3-0 lead. Pickens however had their fair share of run scoring in the bottom of the frame as Brady Moore & Will Lawrence drove in runs to make it 3-2 going to the 2nd. Dalton Elrod came on in relief of starting pitcher Noah Canada in the top of the 2nd and stranded two Panther runners to send us to the bottom of the inning. Michael Burrell drove in a run & Josh Holbert drove in two for the Dragons in the 2nd to give Pickens a 5-3 lead going to the 3rd.

 

In the 3rd, Union Co. got one back as they plated a run to make it 5-4. The Dragons were unable to get anything going in the 3rd as a double play hindered any scoring chance. Pickens turned a double play of their own in the top of the 4th and blew their lead open with 7 runs in the bottom of the inning to make things 12-4 going to the 5th.

 

The Panthers managed to score 1 run in the 5th, 6th, & 7th innings each, but it wasn’t enough as the JV Dragons held on for the win, 12-7. With the win, the JV Dragons are now 4-1 on the season.

 

Michael Burrell went 1-3 with 3 RBI, & 3 runs scored

Josh Holbert went 1-2 with 2 RBI & a run scored

Caswell Smith went 2-4 with two singles & a run scored

Will Lawrence went 1-2 with 1 RBI & 1 run scored

 

Dragons got great pitching from Canada, Elrod, Damain Watkins, & Jackson Jones on the night pitching around tight spots and getting the outs when needed.
