Mr. Scott Richard Erickson: Obituary

Scott Richard Erickson, age 59, of Talking Rock passed away Friday, March 12, 2016 at Heritage Hospice in Marietta.  Scott was born March 12, 1957 to Richard and Alice Erickson in Omaha, Nebraska.

Scott earned a Bachelor’s Degree at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida.  He was employed at Lockheed Martin in Marietta for 25 years as a pilot/flight line mechanic.  He was a 30 year veteran of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.  Following 911, Scott volunteered his aeronautical services for a year to the Marine Corps.

Scott co-owned WXJR Jasper Radio (102.1 FM).  He began the radio station to provide a quality FM station and to provide low-cost air time for the community.  He was on the Board of Directors for Georgia Mountain Broadcasting, a non-profit organization he started to support the town of Jasper, local merchants, and local charitable organizations.  He was a local DJ for High Fidelity.

Scott and his wife, Susan, are members of Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Erickson and son, Michael Erickson.

Scott is survived by wife, Susan Erickson of Talking Rock; mother, Alice Norman Sherrets of Lytchfield, Arizona; brother, Kurt Erickson of Lytchfield, Arizona; daughters, Kirsten Minnich of Huntsville, Ohio, Jessie Massey of Marble, North Carolina, Hannah Erickson of Atlantic City, New Jersey; stepsons, William Carlson of Palm Bay, Florida, Jesse Carlson of Talking Rock, Georgia; and grandson, Kalib Minnich.

Scott was deeply loved by his wife and family.  His father-in-law and mother-in-law, Retired Major General William and Carol O’Leksy of Dahlonega, Georgia, thought of Scott as their own son.
