Denim and Diamonds Shines Light on Georgia Mountains Hospice

Georgia Mountains Hospice and Richard York, representing Woodmen Life, hosted the 4th Annual Denim and Diamonds at Willow Creek Falls on Saturday, August 27th.  Last year, the two organizations raised around $10,000 with the event.

Georgia Mountains Hospice provides end-of-life care for people in their last six months of life.  Hospice workers give care at people’s homes and nursing homes.  It also provides grief counseling for family members for up to 13 months after a loved one passes.  The hospice service has contracted with the VA for the past 12 years to assist veterans.  It is also the only hospice service in the area which cares for terminally-ill children. Altogether, Georgia Mountains Hospice serves around 200 people a year.

Gina Pendley, Director of Georgia Mountains Hospice, says that no one is ever turned away due to funding sources.  Also, all of the money raised through this event and other fundraisers stays in this area.  Georgia Mountains Hospice is a true non-profit; it is not associated with any corporate hospices.

Richard York and Woodmen Life, the other co-sponsors of the event, is located in Blue Ridge.  The money that Mr. York raises through Denim and Diamonds will go to various Fannin County groups like Special Olympics, Boy Scouts, Feed Fannin, Relay for Life and high school scholarship fund.

Like the name suggests, there was plenty of blue jeans, boots and bling to go around.  Events at Denim and Diamonds included music, dinner, dancing and silent auction for gift baskets, golf packages and handicraft items.
