Jasper Police Officers Stop Attempted Robbery

City of Jasper Police Officers responded to a 911 call and arrived on the scene of the Marathon Gas Station across from Jasper First Baptist Church.   Suspects were attempting to burglarize the Gas Station in the early morning hours Wednesday, Dec. 28th, 2016 at approximately 4:40 a.m. The Police arrived to find a  black male loading a safe into a dark colored SUV, make and model was not identified. The suspect was accompanied by a black female, a black male, and possibly a fourth lookout in the vehicle.

  Jasper Police Chief Greg Lovell said suspects were wearing black masks and at least one had a handgun. At this point, the chief said it’s too soon to say if this is the the same group they have been investigating that has hit other stores in the area, labeled at the moment, as the All About the Money Gang.

“They forced their way in, crawled and unplugged the video and started to illegally remove the safe” Lovell said. “We are still reviewing the recorded video and it’s still early in the investigation.”

When the responding officers arrived, the suspects fled and the police proceeded to chase the suspects. The safe was not loaded successful and left behind but suspects was able to leave the scene with wireless earbuds and an iPhone.   Officers pursued the vehicle but lost the suspects in the area of Burnt Mountain Road and Lumber Company Road.

This is the latest in a line of burglaries across the state, including one at a convenience store on Refuge Road a week ago.  “They’re robbing everyone, just look at the news,” Lovell said, talking about a recent robbery in Gilmer County that is also possibly connected to the same group. “They seem to target places that back up to the woods.
