‘Nettes Go Toe-To-Toe With 7A Roswell For Tournament Championship

This past Friday night, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team traveled up to Blue Ridge for the final day of the Fannin Mountain Top Holiday Classic. The opponent that evening for the ‘Nettes would be the Roswell Lady Hornets out of the 7A classification. A win, would mean a tournament championship for one of these schools.

 

In the 1st, Roswell connected on some early three’s, but Pickens hung right there with them. After one, the Lady Hornets led the ‘Nettes, 12-8. In the 2nd, the defense for Pickens led to a big turnaround. The ‘Nettes outscored Roswell 12-6, to take a 20-18 advantage into the break.

 

In the 3rd, both teams found success offensively, & proved to be very evenly matched. The Lady Hornets outscored Pickens 18-16 in the frame to tie things up at 36 going to the 4th. This classic would come down to the final seconds as it could’ve gone either way. With Roswell leading by 3, the ‘Nettes had two chances to tie it up, but they would not fall. The Lady Hornets added a free throw to get the win, 49-45. Taylor Wigington, Torie Williams, & Autumn Young were named to the All-Tournament team for Pickens.

Autumn Young: 13 points, 2 assists, 3 rebounds, & 1 steal

Mykenzie Weaver: 10 points, 3 assists, 4 rebounds, & 2 steals

Ashley Nelson: 8 points, 1 assist, 7 rebounds, & 2 steals

Torie Williams: 6 points, 2 assists, & 2 rebounds

Taylor Wigington: 3 points, 7 assists, 3 rebounds, & 3 steals

Tessa Duncan: 3 points, 1 rebound, & 2 steals

Mackenzie Hampton: 2 points, 1 rebound, & 1 steal

 

The ‘Nettes, will be back home on Tuesday evening as they host the Sonoraville Lady Phoenix in non region action. Tip off scheduled for 6 p.m.
