News Release-Pickens County GA Tea Party

TEA PARTY TALK                     February 20, 2017

In continuing our education programming, at our next monthly meeting, we have a unique opportunity to gain a better understanding of our exclusive, to the world, local grand juries.  Now, why do you need to be aware of this one-of-a-kind   panel of citizens that is convened by a court?  All citizens concerned about local, state and national issues should know about the powers of their local grand jury.

At our Tuesday, February 28th monthly meeting, we have the privilege  of having a retired judge, Judge Paul  Nally, to outline for us a detailed program on the history, powers and duties of our grand jury system.   All Pickens County citizens are invited and encouraged to attend this important  presentation.  Judge Nally, a resident of Bartow County, is well known for his opinions concerning  constitutional issues and the grand jury connection.  See his recent article as an example:  http://www.newswithviews.com/guest_opinion/guest264.htm

Our Thursday, March 9th Pickens County Round Table Luncheon will continue our educational efforts, with a rescheduled visit of Ann Casas, State Director For Marcy’s Law in Georgia.   On the table for discussion is SR146, Marcy’s Law.  Marsy’s Law of Georgia is part of a national movement to give equal constitutional rights to crime victims. So far 35 states have given some level of constitutional rights to crime victims. Georgia remains 1 of 15 states that has not. In her capacity  as State Director, Ann has traveled the state meeting with crime victims and advocate groups who want to see Georgia give victims equal standing in court with the accused and convicted. Ann has worked in the past on many local and statewide campaigns in various roles. She resides in Gwinnett County with her husband and 2 children.

Please join us as we discuss these and other issues of the day:
