Larry Kent Butler

Larry Kent Butler, 71, died May 30, 2019 at his home, Seventy-four Ranch, in Jasper, Georgia.
He was born in Atlanta in 1947 to Mary Willson Butler and Richard Kirby Butler.

He was educated at Marist High School and graduated cum laude from North Georgia College as a Distinguished Military Graduate in 1969. He received his J.D. from Emory University Law School in 1975.

He was a captain in the United States Army and served as commander of a Hawk Missile Battery in the 52nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment. Under his command, the Hawk Missile Battery scored a 99.5 in a joint NATO military exercise. It was the highest score in NATO history at the time, and he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal.

He specialized in complex civil litigation, including catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death cases.

He was a member/officer of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America 1975-2010.

He served as President of the Albany Rugby Football Club in 1980. He served as President of the Atlanta chapter of the Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association in 1992. He also served as Georgia Team Penning Association President in 1997.

In 1999, he founded the Seventy-four Ranch in Jasper, Georgia together with his wife Pam. While continuing to practice law, he also served the community as a volunteer firefighter.

His daughter, Gabrielle Hope, predeceased him.

He is survived by his wife, Pam Martin Butler; his son, Patrick Kennedy Butler; his son, Sean Alexander Fine; and three grandchildren, Jacob Butler, William Butler, and Celeste Fine.

A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Our Lady of the Mountains Roman Catholic Church with Father Charles Byrd officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. A reception will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Seventy-Four Ranch – 9205 Highway 53 West; Jasper, Georgia 30143.
