Donald Eugene Gravitt, age 81 of Calhoun, Georgia, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2020 at his home. He was born May 27, 1938 to Lee and Augusta Gravitt in Rockmart, Georgia. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, was a member of Sonoraville Masonic Lodge, and was a bailiff with the Gordon County Court System.
Don is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth Gravitt of Calhoun; daughter and son-in-law, Shelley and Glen Moody of Canton; grandchildren, Emily Johnson of Ranger, Tim and Ellie Moody of Fairmount, Leah Moody of Canton, Cade Johnson of Ranger; brother-in-law, William Cantrell of Jasper; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Ken Aaron of Jasper, Mary and Gerald Aaron of Jasper. Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sister.
Funeral Services will be held 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 1, 2020 at Sharptop Baptist Church with Reverend Glen Moody and Reverend Kenneth Kirk officiating. Interment will follow in the Refuge Baptist Church Cemetery with Brother Darrell Morris in charge.
The family will be receiving friends in his community at Newtown Baptist Church, Saturday, February 29, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and at Roper Funeral Home and Crematory, Sunday, March 1, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.
