Man wearing ballistic vest shoots at Pickens County deputies

PRESS RELEASE – A Pickens County man wearing a ballistic vest shot at officers that arrived to conduct a welfare check.

Pickens County Sheriff’s Office released a statement on this morning’s incident of an Officer involved shooting.

According to Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched this morning to respond to a call around 9:00 a.m.

Deputies then arrived to 28 Ginger Drive, Jasper, Georgia, noting that the calling was placed for a welfare check.

“Upon arrival a male subject exited the home wearing a ballistic vest and carrying a rifle. The subject began shooting at deputies and they returned fire. The subject has been transported to the hospital,” according to the statement issued by PCSO.

No deputies were injured in the shooting but the incident will be turned over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to further investigate the case.

“Due to the ongoing investigation the names of the suspect and deputies involved are not being released. All further information will be released by the GBI.”
