PRESS RELEASE – The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office release a statement regarding the 2022 murder at a residence on Golf Spring Road.
“Today, Nathan Highsmith pled guilty to Felony Murder following a January 2022 incident on Golden Spring Road in Jasper, GA. He was sentenced to 40 years, with 22 years to serve in prison.
The case began when Pickens Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a residence on Golden Spring Road regarding two individuals being shot. When they arrived, they found both victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Tragically, one later died from their injuries. Witnesses identified Highsmith as the gunman, and he had fled the scene.
Deputies quickly launched a search and used Flock camera technology to track the vehicle Highsmith was driving. That same evening, he was located and arrested in metro Atlanta.
This outcome reflects the relentless work of our deputies and the role of technology in helping bring justice to victims and families.”
